About Us
Every language carries a world inside it and for too long, ours was going quiet.
We are Uyai Akwa Ibom: an aunt and niece duo bound not just by family, but by a fierce, unshakable love for our culture. What started as a quiet worry that our children were growing up without the words their grandparents spoke became a mission we couldn't ignore.
The moment that changed everything was simple: we looked for Ibibio books our children could see themselves in, and found almost nothing. Yoruba, Hausa, and Igbo children had shelves of stories with characters who spoke like them, laughed like them, belonged like them. Ibibio children had a gap where their stories should have been.
So we closed it ourselves.
Together, we created the Ikọ Ibibio series books built for children and adults alike, designed to put the Ibibio language back into the hands (and hearts) of the next generation. It began as two people refusing to let a language fade. It has grown into a living archive of stories, sounds, and characters like Inem and Eduwem among them carrying Ibibio forward for families in Akwa Ibom and across the diaspora.
This is more than a product line. It's a promise that UYAI — beauty never has to be lost in translation.
